The town is set in a very fine gulf between the coast and Monte Inici, rich in vegetation. The town ends towards the sea, where stands the castle, between two magnificicent beaches of golden sand.

The whole place can be seen in one extraordinary panoramic view, from the Belvedre placed high up on the state highway.

History:
According to the opinion of historians and geographers, Castellammare is the ancient Emporium of Segesta, or rather it was its port where the shipping business of the city of the Elimi took place.

The Carthaginesi fortified the whole of the Gulf during the fight with Selinunte. After the Punic wars and the end of the Carthaginian power, the area increased its value with the Romans who made it impregnable with the building of a fort on the sea.

The Arabs whose rule began in the IX century, destroyed Segesta, but on the contrary, increased its port which was then call Al Madarig, "The steps" and supported trade with the settlement of a tunny fish station.
